Colorado statute that specifies when and how arrests may be made, including permissible times, use of force, and entry onto property.
Arrest (under Colorado law)
Taking a person into custody by legal authority; may occur on any day and at any hour according to § 16-3-101.
Necessary and reasonable force
The amount of force legally permitted to make an arrest or effect entry, limited to what is required and sensible under § 16-3-101.
Hot pursuit
An immediate and continuous chase of a suspect by police that can justify warrantless entry and other urgent actions.
Exigent circumstances
Emergency conditions—such as threat to safety or risk of evidence destruction—that allow officers to act without a warrant.
