Solution

A special kind of mixture where one substance seems to disappear into another.

Solute

The substance that dissolves in a solvent.

Solvent

The substance in which a solute dissolves.

Soluble substance

A substance that can dissolve in water.

Insoluble substance

A substance that cannot dissolve in water.

Dissolve

When a substance mixes completely with a liquid and seems to disappear.

Saturated solution

A solution where no more solute can dissolve in the solvent.

Temperature

How hot or cold a liquid is, which affects how fast a solute dissolves.

Grain size

The size of the small pieces or particles of a solid substance, which affects how fast it dissolves.

Rate of dissolving

How fast or slow a substance dissolves in a liquid.
