Paitent types: What can you do to adjust?

Silent Patient

be empathetic, be understanding, give encouragement

Confusing Patient

Stay calm, be considerate, pay attention, focus on understanding.

Altered Capacity Patient

Obtain consent, consider dividing interview into 2 parts…half with patient half with informatent

Talkative Patient

stay patient, listen closely, figure out key points, let them talk

Angry Paitient

make ammends, allow them to express, acknowledge their frustrations

Crying Paitent

give empathy, be supportive, offer tissue

Language Barrier Patient

be simple & clear, find interpreter

Impaired Hearing Paitent

Written questions, interpreter, ask if paitient has hearing aids

Impaired Vision Paitient

Shake hands, establish contact, use clear words & no gestures

Limited intelligence Paitient

Pay attention, ask questions, ask caregiver for assistance.
