Balancing a Ration
Matching the biochemical needs of the animal with the chemical contents of the feeds available.

Energy content of a feed based on digestible macronutrients.
Digestible Dry Matter (DDM)
An estimate of TDN for forages.
Gross Energy (GE)
Total combustible energy in a feedstuff.
Digestible Energy (DE)
Energy absorbed by an animal (GE - FE).
Metabolizable Energy (ME)
Energy absorbed by an animal and not lost to urine and gas production.
Crude Protein (CP)
Estimate of protein content of a feed based on N content.
Dry Matter (DM)
The content of organic and inorganic matter in a feed without water content.
