What is Circuit Training?
Series of exercise stations that can work on all components of fitness useful for sports, particularly games
What cell components of fitness can circuit training work on?
Muscular endurance, strength and muscular endurance, cardio-vascular endurance
What are some things to consider for Circuit Training?
Space available, equipment available, what we want to achieve, number of stations, work rest ratios
What are the advantages of circuit training?
Easy to choose between simple & complex circuits, Manipulated to focus on specific needs, Easy to vary circuit to suit fitness level, Easy to monitor and collect, Large groups can work at the same time, Easy set up
What are the disadvantages of circuit training?
Appropriate space is required, May require specialist equipment, Difficult to gauge work/rest ratio for initial fitness sessions, Technique on each station must be monitored or else risk of injury
What is Continuous Training?
Exercising for a sustained period of time at a constant rate or intensity without rest
What does continuous training primarily develop?
Cardiovascular endurance
What is the formula for calculating Maximum Heart Rate (MHR)?
Maximum Heart Rate = 220 - age
What is the aerobic training zone required for continuous training?
60-80% of MHR
How long should you work continuously to have an effect with continuous training?
Minimum of 20 minutes
What does continuous training improve?
Improves ability to work without suffering fatigue
How many beats per Minute should we be working in for continuous training?
123 to 164 bpm for continuous training
What are the advantages of continuous training?
Little to no equipment needed, Improves aerobic fitness, Can be done almost anywhere, Easy to do, Suitable for beginners
What are the disadvantages of continuous training?
Can be boring, Can Cause injury due to repetitive nature, Can be time consuming, Doesn't always meet demands of sport
