A single layer of cells that surrounds the different parts of a plant

Eg. Epidermis cover leaves, stem and root

Xylem: transports water and minerals around the plant

Phloem: transports food from the leaves to the other parts of the plant

A number of cells spread out in a matrix that is produced by the connective cells

Eg. Blood tissue consists of platelets/wbc/rbc suspended in a matrix of plasma

Define nervous tissue and give an example

Composed of nerve cells called neurons

Neurons carry electrical impulses to and from the brain/spinal cord

Define tissue culture

The growth of cells in or on a sterile nutrient medium outside an organism
