Vallate Papillae
largest lingual papillae forming “V” in the posterior tongue, houses many taste receptors
Fungiform Papillae
mushroom-shaped, located on tip and sides of tongue (a few taste receptors)
Foliate Papillae
folds or ridges in posterolateral portion of tongue (a few taste receptors in early childhood)
Filiform Papillae
small and numerous, lack taste receptors
