bone (osseous tissue)
Very vascular osteocytes in lacunae. Hard calcified matrix with collagen.
blood (connective tissue)
blood vessels. Matrix is called plasma.
nervous tissue (neurons)
brain, spinal cord, nerves. Supporting cells (neuroglia) protect, nourish, and insulate the neuron.
skeletal muscle
attaches to bone and skin. Long, striated, multinucliated cells. Voluntary action muscle.
cardiac muscle
Only found in the heart. Involuntary action muscle. Striated and uninuclear.
smooth muscle
walls of hollow organs. Involuntary action muscle. Not striated and uninuclear.
cartilage elastic (connective tissue)
supports external ear. Rubbery solid matrix.
fibrocartilage (connective tissue)
intervertebral disks and knee. Add strength to resist compressional forces.
hyaline cartilage (connective tissue)
Chondrocytes. cartilage in the ribs, nose. Smooth tissue. In articular surfaces -> joints
dense irregular
fibrous capsules of organs and joints
dense regular (dense connective tissue)
tendons and ligaments. Attaches muscle to bone. Main cell is fibroblast.
reticular (loose connective tissue)
spleen
adipose (loose connective tissue)
within abdomen or breasts. Provides reserve food and insulation. Gel like matrix
areolar (loose connective tissue)
packages organs, surrounds capillaries. Gel like matrix. Main calls in fibroblasts
transitional epithelium
urinary bladder
stratified squamous epithelium
lines esophagus
pseudostratified columnar epithelium
lines trachea
simple columnar epithelium
lines digestive track
simple cuboidal epithelium
found in kidneys
simple squamous epithelium
found in lungs
