What is erosion?
Erosion is when Hydraulic action creaates air pockets inside a cliff. Those air pocket expand and break off when the hydraulic action continues to put more air pockets.
What are the 3 types of weathering
Physical/Mechanical Weathering
Biological weathering
Chemical weathering
What is Mechanical Weathering
Water from rain or spme other sourc3 gets into the cracks of a rock. When the temperatures go below 0°C, the water turns into ice and expands, since ice expands when frozen. This makes the crack bigger and when the ice melts, and turns to water again, the cycle repeats itself until the rock is broken into 2.
What is biological weathering?
When the roots of a plant burrows into the cracks of a rock. As the roots grow, they exert pressure, slowly prying the rock apart.
What is Chemical Weathering?
Chemical weathering is when water, which contains carbon dioxide (making it a weak carbonic acid) reacts with calcium carbonate in rocks such as chqlk alnd limestone. This dissolves and is washed away in solution wekening the rock over time.
What is mass movement?
Mass movement is the downhill movememt of cliff material under the influence of gravity. There are 4 different types. These are : Rockfall, landslide, mudslide
What is rockfall?
When weathered away rocks roll down to the base of the cliff.
What is a landslide?
When blocks of rocks slide down the slide plain to base.
What is a mud slide?
A large flow of mud, rock or soul mixed with water flowing dows a cliff.
What is slumping?
When slices of the cliff slump and slowly slip down.
