Literally everything is true and everything in the bible is exactly how its told
‘In the beginning, God created the heavens and earth’ genesis
Liberal interpretation of the bible:
bible needs to be interpreted for modern society, Bible’s are metaphors/stories designed to communicate a truth (God created the universe)
or human error since bible was transcribed over 1000 years ago
What’s the trinity?
idea that God is one, but exists in 3 diff person:
the 3 people of:
—> God the father: Creator & sustainer of all things
—> God the son: - incarnation of God, as a human being (Jesus)
—> Holy spirit: - power of God which is active in the world
What does transcendence mean?
God’s superior to humans &beyond our understanding
What does incarnation mean?
God became Jesus in human form
believed Jesus both fully human & fully God
God showed himself as a being for 30 years
—> when Jesus was baptized, a voice from heaven was heard: “you’re my son” Mark 1:11
What’s the crucification of Jesus?
Jesus sent to die on cross (cruxification)
wasn’t spared of pain & horror
Jesus forgave those who crucified him
Christians who accept Jesus’ sacrifice are no longer destroyed by sin in their lives, God forgives those who faithfully ask for it
What’s resurrection in Christianity?
the belief that Jesus rose from the dead on Easter Sunday conquering death
What’s the resurrection of Jesus
1) Placed in a tomb on Friday
2) angels told men Jesus had risen & to spread the message
3)Christians believe resurrection shows power over good & evil
—> accepting Jesus means they will also be resurrected (in a way)
—> no need to fear death
What’s original sin?
tendency to sin in all human beings, which is believed to be inherited from Adam & Eve
What do Christians believe in life after death?
afterlife begins upon death or at Day of Judgement where Jesus will return and judge the living and the dead
god judges the fate of those who die
in serving others, you are serving Jesus
What’s salvation?
to be saved from sin and its consequences a result of Jesus being crucified on the cross.
enables humans to get close to God again & be granted eternal life
Christians believe there are two main ways to get salvation:
salvation through good works: through faith in God and obeying God’s law: eg ten commandments
Salvation through grace: Salvation is given by God through faith in Jesus & his teachings; a gift for being faithful
What’s atonement?
the belief that Jesus’ death on the cross healed the rift between God and humans
What’s the ascension of Jesus?
Jesus leaving Earth 7going to heaven to join God (father)
Importance:
Jesus’ followers witnessed him ascending to the clouds, leaving no doubt he’s with God
demonstrates God’s omnipotence
