what are the three types of conformity?
• Compliance
• Identification
• Internalisation
what is compliance?
public change in belief/behaviour, we 'go along' with the group publicly but privately do not change.
temporary change in belief/behaviour, we conform only whilst group is present
What is identification?
can be explained by NSI/ISI
• public + private change in belief/behaviour
• We identify with other members of the group and our role within the group
• Temporary change in belief/ behaviour
• We conform only while we are part of the group/ in our role
what is internalisation?
deepest type of conformity explained by ISI
• Public and private change in belief/ behaviour
• We end up genuinely agreeing with the group
• Permanent change in belief/ behaviour
• We continue to conform even when the group is not present.
