Republic Act No. 7170
An act authorizing the legacy or donation of all or part of a human body after death for specified purposes.
Decedent
A deceased individual, which includes a still-born infant or fetus.
Donor
An individual authorized to donate all or part of the body of a decedent.
Organ Bank Storage Facility
A facility licensed, accredited, or approved for the storage of human bodies or parts thereof.
Testator
An individual who makes a legacy of all or part of his body.
Immediate Family of the Decedent
The persons enumerated in Section 4(a) of the Act.
Legacy
A gift made by a will, effective upon the death of the testator.
Physician/Surgeon
A licensed medical practitioner authorized to practice medicine.
Living Donor
A person who donates an organ or part of their body while still alive.
Organ Donation
The process of giving one's organs or tissues for transplantation after death.
Medico-legal case
A case that requires examination for legal purposes, often related to death.
Autopsy
An examination of a body after death to determine the cause and qualify organs for donation.
Genealogy
The study of family histories, relevant in determining immediate family for donation.
Medical Acceptability
The standard that determines whether a legacy or donation is suitable for intended purposes.
Legatees
Persons who may receive a legacy or donation of human bodies or body parts.
Duties of Hospitals
To train personnel in managing organ donation procedures and support families of donors.
Amendment or Revocation
The process by which a testator can change or cancel a previously made legacy or donation.
