Strength supports link between crime and frontal lobe

Handel and Freed research people with frontal lobe damage, including the prefrontal cortex

They found evidence of impulsive behaviour, emotional and stability and inability to learn from mistake

This shows the idea that Structural abnormalities in the brain are a causal factor in offending behaviour

Limitation of the link between neural differences and APD is complex

Farrington et al studied adult males with a high APD scores . They were raised by a convicted parent and physically neglected.

These experiences may have caused APD and associated neural differences differences for example reduced activity in the frontal lobe due to trauma

This suggests that the relationship between neural differences APD and offending is complex and there may be intervening variables.

3

Biolgocial determinism

The biological approach suggests defending behaviour is determined by factors which cannot be controlled so no responsibility

However, justice system is based on individual responsibility the identification possible biological precursors To crime complicate this principle.

This suggest we should not excuse some people, but ultimately this is not possible because then many could claim no responsibility.

Summary

Strength supports link between crime and formal love

Limitation is link between neural differences exes and APD is complex early experiences may have caused this such as reduced activity in front lobe due to trauma

Biologically determinism suggests they have no control which goes against justice system that is based on individual responsibility
