What’s kinematics?
Study of motion without considering cause.
Describes the pattern or sequence of movement.
Can be qualitative or quantitative.
What is linear kinematics?
Simplest type of motion.
Motion along a straight line or one dimensional motion.
Curvilinear motion
Uniform motion= constant velocity
Non-uniform motion= variable velocity
Kinematic variables
Distance
Displacement
Speed
Velocity
Acceleration
What is distance?
Length of the path that a body follows during motion
What is speed?
How fast something is moving.
Speed= distance / time
What is velocity?
Has magnitude and direction.
Instantaneous velocity is calculated velocity at a particular instant in time. This is equal to the average velocity over a short distance that change in time becomes almost 0.
What is acceleration?
The ability to increase or decrease velocity rapidly is mor important in some sports than the maximum velocity.
Acceleration of an object is the rate of change of velocity with respect to time.
What is a scalar?
A quantity completely described by its magnitude.
E.g. distance, speed, mass, volume and area
What is a vector?
Has a magnitude and direction.
Direction is one-dimensional motion it’s give a + or -.
E.g. displacement, velocity, acceleration, force and weight.
