Occupational Health and Safety

\- set of policies and procedures that is followed in a workplace in order to prevent accidents, illnesses, and injuries

\- concerned with health, safety, and welfare issues in the workplace

\- policies and procedures are important in discussing this as it aims to make the workplace safer and better for workers and stakeholders

\- concerned with many factors such as removal of hazards and reducing accidents in the workplace

Wire Stripper

\- used to strip cables

High-definition multimedia interface (HDMI)

\- port that is used in modern monitors and home theaters; also transmits digital audio and video

Hardware

\- tangible parts of a computer

Software

\- provides the interface, configures, and manages hardware to connect components to applications

Flash drive

\- most common boot drive used to load the operating system

Switch

\- device that filters and forwards packets between LAN segments

Data link layer (Layer 2)

\- where the switch operates

Network layer (Layer 3)

\- where the switch sometimes operates of the OSI Reference Model and therefore support any packet protocol

Processing Devices

\- the computer’s circuitry in the system unit

Installer

\- computer program that installs files like applications, drivers, software onto a computer

Installation (Setup)

\- of a computer program is making a program ready for execution or user access

Hub

\- common connection point for devices in a network; commonly used to connect segments of a LAN

Router

\- network device that forwards data packets along networks, it is connected to at least two networks, usually two LANs or WANs or LAN and the ISP network

Shielded Twisted Pair (STP)

\- extra covering provides extra protection to prevent electromagnetic interference

Coaxial Cable

\- cable commonly used in television industries; the metal shield surrounding the cable helps block interference from fluorescence lights, motors, and other computer parts

Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP)

\- most popular type of cable used for LANs

Windows Operating System

\- dominant operating system preferred by gamers and office workers

Basic Input Output System (BIOS)

\- responsible for making sure that all the other chips, hard drives, ports, and CPU function together

Bridge

\- device that connects two local area networks or two segments of the same LAN that use the same protocol, such as Ethernet or Token-Ring

Wireless connections

\- make use of LANs which allows high frequency radio signals to communicate between work stations, servers, or hubs
