Reference Map
A map that shows the locations of places and geographic features, often used for navigation and orientation. Examples include road maps, world maps, and maps of cities.
Thematic Map
A map that displays the spatial distribution of one or more specific data themes or variables. Examples include choropleth maps, dot density maps, and isoline maps.
Choropleth Map
A thematic map that uses differences in shading, coloring, or the placing of symbols within predefined areas to indicate the average values of a property or quantity in those areas.
Dot Density Map
A thematic map that uses dots to represent the frequency of a variable in a given area. Each dot represents a certain quantity.
