Schedule I Drugs
Drugs with the highest potential for abuse; no currently accepted medical use.
Schedule II Drugs
Drugs with a high level of abuse potential that can lead to severe psychological or physical dependence.
Examples of Schedule I Drugs
Heroin, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), ecstasy.
Examples of Schedule II Narcotics
Hydromorphone (Dilaudid), methadone (Dolophine), oxycodone (OxyContin, Percocet), fentanyl (Duragesic), codeine, morphine.
Schedule II Stimulants
Dextroamphetamine and amphetamine (Adderall), methamphetamine (Desoxyn), methylphenidate (Concerta, Ritalin LA).
Schedule III Narcotics
Acetaminophen with codeine (Tylenol #2 or #3), buprenorphine.
Schedule II Non-Narcotics
Benzphetamine (Didrex), ketamine, anabolic steroids (e.g., Depo-Testosterone).
Schedule IV Substances
Drugs with a low potential for abuse; include alprazolam (Xanax), carisoprodol (Soma), clonazepam (Klonopin), diazepam (Valium), lorazepam (Ativan), temazepam (Restoril).
Schedule V Substances
Drugs with the lowest potential for abuse; include Robitussin AC and ezogabine (Potiga), which contain limited quantities of certain narcotics.
