Chromatography

A technique that is used to separate mixtures into their constituent components

Resin beads

Material used to replace ions with negatively charged sites attracting positively charged ions, and positively charged sites attracting negatively charged ions

Mobile phase

The moving solution that flows through a column, interacting with the stationary phase (resin), and progressively becomes enriched with displaced ions as it travels

Stationary phase

The ion exchange resin that remains fixed in the column and interacts with the mobile phase, facilitating the exchange of ions as the solution moves through it

Effluent

The solution that exits the column after passing through the stationary phase, containing displaced ions from the resin
