Old Typologies and Problems

Wictim-type (gender, age, etc) or motivation (desire to hvae power, or humiliate someone)

Inherently simplistic, victim selection does not represent sexual preference

1 - emotional congruence: target chidlren as more emotionally connected to them

2 - sexual arousal: hypersexuality, sexual sadism (date rape)

3 - blockage: have no way to get consensual sex

4 - disinhibition: otherwise would not commit this crime but is using alcohol or drugs

Paraphilias

Intense sexually arousing fantasies, sexual urges, or behaviours

Paraphilias usually include

1. Non-human objects

2. Suffering or humiliation of oneself or ones partner

3. Children or non-consenting person

Period of time to be diagnose with paraphilia

At least 6 months
