Tower of Babel Story

Genesis 11:

• God called Noah and his offspring in Gen 9 to be increased greatly on the earth and multiple it

• the people in Gen 11 all spoke the same language and migrated east together

• there they had the idea to build a great city and a great name for themselves “lest they be dispersed”

• God saw the potential for great evil in this

• he confused their languages so they could not all understand each other anymore and dispersed them all across the earth

• God’s heart has always been for the nations and this is how the nations began

Global Church

the body of believers represented across the world who make up every tribe, tongue, and nation surrounding God’s throne in eternity

Honor/Shame

• collectivist cultures

• group expectation to fit in & belong

• identify is based on family/clan/tribe

• seeking honor

• honor killings are in this world view to save face

• magic & spirit world to appease spirits

Jesus was the full fulfillment of restoration

we are in the already but not yet tension of having salvation and true restoration in Christ but waiting for the final restoration in the new heavens and new earth

grand narrative

the story of the Bible from Gen - Rev following the story of God’s pursuit of his people and his people and his pursuit of redemption and restoration as Jesus Christ is the climax of the story and it ends with full restoration, peace an harmony between God and his set apart people
