Who was Fletcher?
Fletcher was an American episcopalian
‘The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath’
Fletcher believed that a relativistic approach was evident in the work of Jesus, who healed the sick on the Sabbath instead of worrying about the law that forbade work, and forgave the adulterous woman.
What did Fletcher believe that the best way to be loving was?
It depends on the situation, and so if it is more loving to break a law then, following Jesus’ example, that is the good thing to do
‘Jesus straightened up and asked her..’
,’Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?’
‘No one, sir’
‘Then neither do I condemn you,’ Jesus declared. ‘Go now and leave your life of sin’
