Irrational beliefs are illogical, incorrect or distorted ideas that are firmly held by a person despite there being clear, objective and contradictory evidence to show otherwise whereas cognitive distortions refer to patterns of negative or exaggerated thought, which can reinforce maladaptive behaviour.
