Extradition
The legal process by which one jurisdiction (usually a country or state) delivers a person accused or convicted of a crime to another jurisdiction where the crime was allegedly committed.
Preemption
The principle that federal law overrides or takes precedence over conflicting state or local laws in areas where Congress has legislated.
Federalism
A system of government in which power is divided between a central (national) government and regional (state or local) governments.
National Supremacy
The doctrine that the Constitution and federal laws made pursuant to it are the supreme law of the land, taking precedence over any conflicting state laws.
Full Faith and Credit Clause
A clause in the U.S. Constitution (Article IV, Section 1) requiring that each state recognize and respect the public acts, records, and judicial decisions of every other state.
