ESU Upward Bound
A program formed in 1974 to advance equal opportunity in post-secondary education for students from diverse backgrounds.
Mission Statement
The mission of ESU UB is to promote intellectual curiosity and academic excellence while developing necessary skills for high school and university success.
Academic Performance Objective
All ESU UB students are expected to maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better on a four-point scale.
Postsecondary Enrollment Objective
All ESU UB students will enroll in college by the fall immediately following high school graduation.
Upward Bound Program History
Founded in 1965, Upward Bound serves over 61,000 students nationwide from diverse backgrounds, aiming to enhance academic skills for success beyond high school.
Parental Involvement
Critical for student success; parents are encouraged to engage in their child's education and participate in program activities.
Academic Probation
A status assigned to students whose grades fall below a C- in any major academic class, requiring them to meet with a tutor and improve their GPA.
Dress Code
Students must adhere to a dress code that prohibits skintight clothing and other specified attire to maintain a serious student image.
Summer Program Policies
Maintain a solid academic record and behavior to participate in the ESU UB summer residential program.
STAR Policy
Stands for Setting the Tone for an Atmosphere of Respect; requires respectful behavior toward everyone in the Upward Bound community.
