Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
Prohibits discrimination based on disabilities, including those who have a current, past, or perceived disability.
Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)
Federal agency that enforces laws against employment discrimination.
Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
Defines minimum wage, overtime, and payment requirements for certain employees.
Civil Rights Act of 1963, Title VII
Prohibits discrimination based on race, color, creed, religion, national origin, and sex.
Worker’s Compensation
Insurance providing medical care and compensation for employees injured on the job.
Unemployment Compensation
Payments made by governments to unemployed individuals, based on a governmental insurance system.
Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
Requires employers with 50 or more employees to provide up to 12 weeks of unpaid job-protected leave.
Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA)
Requires employers with 20 or more employees to offer continued health insurance for a limited time.
Taft-Hartley Act
Labor legislation that amended the National Labor Relations Act and provided employee rights and regulation of unions.
Title I of the Taft-Hartley Act
Addresses employee rights and regulates unfair labor practices, including the prohibition of closed shops.
