Intrusive igneous rock
Magma solidifies in earths crust
Extrusive igneous rocks
Igneous rock hardens on earth
What is intrusive activity
Magma solidifies underground after a mass of magma doesnt reach the surface
1.
Batholith- mass of magma pushes upward and solidifies under earths surface, exposed by weathering
2.
Laccolith- magma intrudes on old layers of sedimentary rock that are roughly horizontal, pushes rock upwards
3.
Sill- magma spreads horizontal between layers
4.
Dyke- wall like cuts vertically across existing rock layers
5.
Lopolith- sedimentary layers cannot support weight lower layer subsides
