Autotrophs
Organisms that make their own food using sunlight or chemical energy.
Heterotrophs
Organisms that obtain their food from other organisms.
Photosynthesis
The process by which green plants use sunlight to convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen.
Aerobic respiration
A type of respiration that requires oxygen to produce energy from glucose.
Anaerobic respiration
A type of respiration that occurs without oxygen, resulting in less energy produced than aerobic respiration.
Ecosystem
A community of living organisms and their interactions with the environment.
Homeostasis
The ability of an organism to maintain internal stability despite changes in external conditions.
DNA
Deoxyribonucleic acid, the molecule that carries genetic information.
Mutation
A change in the DNA sequence that can lead to variations in traits.
Natural selection
The process by which organisms better adapted to their environment tend to survive and produce more offspring.
