2
New cards

3

New cards
  1. Identify TWO features of the cultural landscape displayed in image 1 or image 2.

  • One feature of the cultural landscape shown in image 1 is the Gothic Revival architecture of Rajabai tower, which reflects British colonial influence on India's built environment. Another feature is the open field with people playing cricket, a sport introduced during colonial rule, and was adopted and adapted by many countries .

New cards
  1. Describe TWO ways that the process of globalization may produce new forms of cultural ideas and practices that affect a city’s cultural landscape.

One way globalization may produce new forms of cultural ideas/practices that affect a city’s cultural landscape is through architecture. Globalization spreads architectural styles from other parts of the world, causing cities to mix local and global architectural traits, which changes the visual form of the city. Another way Globalization introduces new cultural practices is through food. Food leads to the growth of fusion cuisines and creates new restaurants that change the visible cultural landscape of a city.

  1. Explain a limitation of using the images to understand how imperialism spread cultural patterns and processes from the location in Image 2 to the location in Image 1

A major limitation is that the images only show the final architectural results, not the historical process that created them. The photos don’t reveal how British imperialism influenced Mumbai or whether the Rajabai Tower’s design was directly imposed by British rulers or shaped by other cultures. Because the images lack written context, they cannot explain the specific ways imperialism spread British architectural styles and cultural patterns from London to Mumbai.

New cards
  1. Explain how time-space convergence can impact the culture of a place.

Time space convergence can impact a culture by speeding up the spread of ideas and practices between distant places. As travel and communication become faster, people are exposed to outside cultures more often, which can lead to changes in local traditions, food fashion, and architecture. It can also create more culturally mixed cities because people and businesses from different regions can interact and connect more easily. Overall, times space convergence reshape the place of culture by increasing contact and cultural change.

  1. Explain how cultural convergence relates to the use of the English language in the United Kingdom and India

Cultural convergence connects to the use of English in the United Kingdom and India because it shows how cultures become more similar through shared traits. English started in the UK and later spread to India. English became common in India, it was used in schools, government and business. India keeps using English because it helps people communicate across different regions. This shows cultural convergence because both countries now share a major cultural trait even though their cultures are different.

  1. Explain the degree to which features in a cultural landscape relate to the process of relocation diffusion.

Features in a cultural landscape often relate to relocation diffusion because they can show how people physically move from one place to another and brought their cultural traits with them. When groups migrate, they carry things like religion, language, architecture and food traditions which can become visible in the built environment. For example places of worship, architectural styles, and restaurants all demonstrate how people and their cultural practices moved across space.

  1. Explain the degree to which features in a cultural landscape relate to the process of expansion diffusion.

Features in a cultural landscape relate to expansion diffusion because they show how ideas, styles, and practices spread from one cultural hearth while still remaining strong in the place where they started. Expansion diffusion happens when a cultural trait grows and influences new areas without losing its original strength. For example, a religion, or an architectural style may appear in different countries while still being widely used in its home region. When these features show up, like similar building styles, or shared cultural symbols—they’re visible evidence that expansion diffusion has taken place. Therefore, the presence of these widespread cultural traits in the landscape demonstrates how expansion diffusion spreads culture while keeping its core intact.
