Why does Jendrysik think it is useful to think about utopia and dystopia?
The concept of utopia/dystopia is useful because “people must be allowed, and more importantly, allow themselves to dream, to launch their thought beyond what is socially expected and rewarded. What is left of human aspiration if utopia is dead or meaningless?”
What evidence is there to support Jendrysik’s view of why utopia/dystopia is an important concept?
The importance of utopia in mobilizing the youth for activism is proven by the popularity of dystopian Y/A novels like The Giver, Hunger Games, The Maze runner etc. In these books, a group of youth overcome a hegemonic regime that seeks to oppress humanity. This correlates with a rise in youth climate activism.
