Depressive Disorder
sad for long periods of time, changes in mood, physical and cognitive changes that affects ability to function.
Major Depressive Disorder
sad mood, loss pleasure in activities, lack of motivation, must be 2 weeks to have depression
Persistent Depressive Disorder
fewer, less symptoms, but symptoms are present for 2 years
Learned Helplessness
keep trying and change doesn’t happen, give up, lose motivation
Causes for Depressive Disorders
Biological- neuroticism
Social- ACES
Genetic- First-degree family member
Cultural- gender
Behavioral- learned helplessness
Cognitive- Maladaptive thoughts, cognitive triad (Thoughts, Behavior, Feelings)
Bipolar Disorders
Heavy genetic component, higher likelihood for bipolar than schizophrenia
Depression
mid, moderate, severe, profound, gloomy, tired, slowness of thought
Mania
elation, living on a high, hyperactive desire for action, forget necessities (eat, sleep bathe), must have mania to have bipolar disorder
Cycling
Periods of depression and mania alternating periods of time that can last various amounts of time
BP I
Manic is more severe, focus on treating mania, more severe despression
BP II
Hypomanic (less mania), mood stabilizers to treat
