verbalise cleaning the hood

• make sure to use overlapping strokes for all

• clean ceiling back → front, overlapping strokes

• get a new set of wipes

• depends on situation: clean back wall left → right, up → down, if possible (HEPA filter is not visible)

• get a new set of wipes

• clean side wall up → down, left → right

• get a new set of wipes

• clean other side wall

• get a new set of wipes

• clean work area back → front

place all supply items for the skill into the outer six-inch staging area of the hood

place the vial within the DCA

remove the flip-top cap and place in discard pile (left edge)

open an alcohol swab within the DCA and swab the rubber top of the medicine vial

place the used swab on the hood’s work surface within the DCA

place wrapper in the discard pile

aseptically attach a regular needle to the syringe

13

pull plunger back on the syringe to slightly less than the amount needed to be drawn up

14

remove the needle cap and place it onto the alcohol swab

15

use the thumb and forefinger of the nondominant hand to stabilise the vial against the hood’s work surface

16

place the needle tip bevel up and insert at a 45-degree angle through the stopper

17

gently push the air from the syringe into the vial

18

use nondominant hand holding the vial and the dominant hand to maintain the needle in the vial while inverting the vial so that needle and syringe is below the vial

19

allow fluid to move from the vial to syringe; if needed, pull back on the plunger until the desired amount withdrawn

withdraw needle from vial

carefully recap needle

22

judge verifies the correct amount of liquid withdrawn

place the completed syringe and other supply items on transport vehicle

24

discard waste items in proper waste container

25

return to anteroom and return unused supply items to proper storage

26

verbalise removing all PPE

27

wash hands or use alcohol based hand-rub for hand hygiene
