Keyboard
The most frequent and widely used input device for entering data into a computer. Layout is similar to that of a typical typewriter
Numeric Keys
It is used to enter numeric data or move the cursor. It usually consists of a set of 17 keys
Typing Keys
The letter keys (A–Z) and number keys (0–9)
Control Keys
These keys control the pointer and the screen such as arrow keys, Home, End, Insert, Alternate (Alt), Delete, Control (Ctrl), and Escape (Esc)
Special Keys
Enter, Shift, Caps Lock, NumLk, Tab, and Print Screen are among these keys
Function Keys
The 12 keys from F1 to F12 located on the topmost row of the keyboard
Mouse
The most common pointing device. An input device that lets you move the mouse on a flat surface to control the coordinates and movement of the on-screen cursor/pointer
Joystick
A pointing device that is used to move the cursor on a computer screen. Its function is comparable to that of a mouse and is primarily used in CAD and playing video games
Stylus
A small pen-shaped instrument whose tip position on a computer monitor can be detected. It is used to draw or make selections by tapping and provides more accurate and controllable input
Scanner
An input device that functions similarly to a photocopier and is used to transfer information from paper to the computer’s hard disk for manipulation
Optical Mark Reader
A device used in educational institutions to check answers to objective exams by recognizing marks made by pencil or pen
Optical Character Reader
A device that reads printed text by scanning it character by character, converting it into machine-readable code, and saving it to system memory
Bar Code Reader
A device that reads printed text by scanning it character by character, converting it into machine-readable code, and saving it to the system memory
Web Camera
A device built inside a computer or connected via USB that can take images and record video, capable of HD video but with lower quality than other cameras
Microphone
An input device that receives voice signals and converts them into digital form, either built-in or connected via a 3.5mm audio jack

Monitor
Also known as Visual Display Unit (VDU), the primary output device that creates images using pixels arranged in a rectangular pattern, where more pixels mean sharper images

Laser Printer
A printer that uses laser light to produce dots forming characters and produces high-quality text and graphics using a negatively charged drum
Inkjet Printer
Uses water-based ink, ideal for photos and colored printing, and can print on a range of materials
Thermal Printer
A printer that uses a heated thermal printhead and heat-sensitive paper to produce images by turning coated areas black when heated
3D Printer
A device that creates physical objects from digital models by depositing material in successive layers
Speakers
Devices that produce sound from signals provided by the computer’s sound card and can be wired or wireless
Projector
An optical device that displays images, videos, or other content on a large screen or surface
Plotter
A computer output device used to produce high-quality, large-scale graphics and drawings and requires a graphics card
