aperture, f-stop
Aperture controls the amount of light that enters the camera lens and measured in f-stop
depth of field
the distance between the nearest and the furthest objects to create a focused image.
shutter speed
the speed at which the shutter of the camera closes. a fast shutter speed creates short exposure.
ISO
a number that represents how sensitive your camera’s sensor is to light. When you change the iso to a high number this allows for the photographer to shoot in low lighting conditions which is beneficial to band photography however can lead to a poor-quality image.
rule of thirds
a compositional guideline that places your subject on the left or right third of an image
over/under exposed images
images that are darker than the actual scene are determined as underexposed. If the image appears brighter it is overexposed.
long exposure
the technique in which the cameras shutter is left open during a lengthy period of time. The resulting image captures a trail of movement.
Freezing action
technique that stops movement and allows you to see something that would’ve happened to fast for the naked eye.
Rembrandt lighting
a technique utilising one light and one reflector or two separate lights. Creates dramatic effect.
