Internal carotid system
divides into anterior and middle portions. Anterior portion sweeps over the corpus callosum to provide most midline cerebral circulation. The middle cerebral artery through lateral sulcus to supply lateral hemispheres, provides anterior circulation
Where does the internal carotid system supply to?
majority of the hemispheres, middle and anterior
Vertebral basilar system
2 vertebral arteries unite between pons and medulla to form basilar arteries, which have two branches- the anterior inferior and superior cerebellar arteries. Basilar arteries divide to become posterior cerebral arteries
Where does the vertebral basilar system supply to?
the lower back portion of the brain
Anterior cerebral artery
branch of the internal carotid artery
Where does the anterior cerebral artery supply to?
the medial brain and lower limb
Middle cerebral artery
largest branch of the internal carotid artery
Where does the midedl cerebral artery supply to?
the lateral brain, face/ arm, and language areas
