Nuclear family

claimed that the most common family structure was the nuclear family. They argued that the extended family is playing much less of a role in day-to-day life. The symmetrical family arose as a result of society becoming fully industrialised, which resulted in husbands and wives having a greater amount of leisure time to spend together. Wilmott and young claim that relationships between husbands and wives have become closer and more equal and there is much more sharing of tasks within the home.

The nuclear family is still the most dominant even if we don't spend all our lives in one, the vast majority of people are part of one at some point of their lives.
