Hydrogen bonding:
an electrostatic interaction that occurs when a hydrogen (H) atom is bound to an electronegative atom.
Water polarity:
water has uneven charges, oxygen is much stronger and has a pull on electrons.Oxygen is more electronegative.
Cohesion:
water molecules that bond to other water molecules
Adhesion:
water molecules bond to to different molecules other than itself.
Solvent:
to dissolve in liquid, water is an example.
Why is water a good solvent?
Because it has an uneven distribution of charge. (polar), it forms hydration spheres around molecules and ions to break apart the solids together.
Surface tension:
Liquids that act as if the surface has a skin. This is because of cohesion.
Thermal capacity of water:
Energy required to raise its temperature. Water has high thermal capacity as it requires alot of energy.
