aim
children imitate specific acts of aggrestion and generally behave more aggressivly.
partipants are more likey to imiate same gender models and boys are more likey to imitate aggresive behviour than girls
method/desgin
this was a labratory expriment
with a matched pairs desgin which was based on aggresstion
method/iv , dv
iv: agressive or non aggresive model, gender of model and gender of child.
dv:imitation of aggressive acts obseved in the experimetal room
sample
this sample was gathered using opprutiny sampling
children were selected from a univesity nursery school in stanford calforina
the sample had 36 boys and 36 girls. aged between 37 months and 69 months. with the mean age being 52 months.
materials and apparatus
the children and model played with various toys including a bobo doll which is an infatanble doll around 5 feet tall.
procedure
phase 1 - modelling
children played in an experimental room,
watching a model play with toys including a bobo doll.
children were placed in to 3 groups
group 1 the aggressive group, they observed an aggressive model who sat on the bobo doll shouting pow as they punched it.
group 2 the non aggressive group. obsereved a non aggressive model
group 3 control group no model present.
exprimental groups were subdivided into four:boys and girls obvered the same and oppiste gender model.
phase 2 - aggrestion arousal
children taken to another room and played with attrative toys
this play was stopped so the children would feel frustrated.
phase 3 - tested for deylaed imitation
chidlren taken into a third room and were observed playing with toys including the bobo doll
children oberverd through a one way mirror
obervstions recored as imitative aggresstion e.g sititing on bobo doll. partily e.g using the mallet and other toys, and then non imative.
