What does correlation measure in statistics?
The relationship between two variables—whether changes in one are associated with changes in the other.
What does the correlation coefficient indicate?
The strength and direction of the relationship between variables (range: -1 to +1).
What does a positive correlation mean?
As one variable increases, the other tends to increase.
What does a negative correlation mean?
As one variable increases, the other tends to decrease.
What is the Pearson correlation coefficient?
The most commonly used measure of correlation between two variables.
What relationship does the Pearson correlation coefficient specifically detect?
Linear relationships.
A coefficient close to 0 does not mean there is no relationship at all; it just means there isn’t a linear relationship. There could still be some other type of relationship like a curvilinear one.
