Cover the area with masking tape, then mark out

Benefit of masking tape on acrylic

Helps keep the temperature of the the plastic below its melting point, so that the cut does not weld itself back together again

Finding the centre of a plastic rod section

The rod should be touching both arms of the centre square, then a line drawn along the inside edge of the ruler should pass through the centre of the rod. To find where along the line the centre is, turn the rod through 90° and draw a second line, where the two lines cross is the true centre
