Mitch says he has to leave early to take care of his sick mother, goes to the bathroom.
Stella and B come back, B meets Mitch
Blanche flirts w Mitch and lies about her age
B turns on radio again, Stanley goes berserk and hits Stella
Men put Stanley into showers
Stella goes up to Eunice, Stanley yells up to her distraught
Mitch comforts Blanche

Blanche finds Stella is fine, she isn't happy about this.
Finds out Stella is thrilled by Stanley's violence/animalistic nature
Blanche insults Stanley as he listens outside. Stella defends him

Blanche is writing a letter to Shep Huntleigh, calling herself a liar
Steve and Eunice are fighting upstairs
Blanche brings up astrology, asking if he's an Aries (a ram), finds out he's actually a Capricorn (goat) (one of Dionysus' favourite incarnations)
Blanche is a Virgo (Stanley laughs)
Stanley mentions her past at the Flamingo to Blanche (she reacts frightenedly)
Blanche is left alone and the Young Man comes selling magazines, she aggressively flirts with him and kisses him
Mitch arrives w flowers

Blanche and Mitch arrive back to the house, both having not had a great time.
Blanche points out the Pleiades
They go inside and talk about alpaca coat and Blanche speaks French, really playing up the Southern Belle
Mitch talks about his sick mother then Blanche talks about her past w Allan

It's B's birthday
Stanley tells Stella everything he found out about Blanche (including being fired) while she sings about Paper Moon from the bathtub.
Stanley tells Stella not to expect Mitch because he's told him too.
Stanley tells Stella how he's bought B a ticket back to Laurel.

It's B's birthday dinner, very tense and awkward. B tells a joke story about a parrot being hushed by covering it's cage.
Stella sides w Blanche and Stanley explodes over being called a Polack, quotes Huey Long and smashes plates.
Blanche realises something is up about Mitch because they're acting off and tries to call him.
Stanley talks about Poland and American dream
Stanley gives her the ticket back to Laurel and she starts physically gagging
Stella tells him off a bit, he talks about how good it was when it was just them two, "I pulled you down off them columns and how you loved it"
Stella goes into labour

Late at night Mitch comes over
Blanche tries to flirt with him but he ignores her
Blanche talks about hearing the Varsouviana until the gunshot stops it - Mitch thinks she's crazy.
Mitch rips the paper-shade off the lamp and Blanche talks about how she doesn't want realism, but magic.
Mitch is upset about how much she lied to him, Blanche talks about the 17y.o boy at school.
Mexican woman w "Flores para los muertos" (flowers for the dead)
Blanche spirals talking about half nonsense
Mitch holds her and wants to rape her, she tells him to marry her then and he says she's "not clean enough to bring in the house with my mother"
Blanche threatens to scream and he leaves

Stanley comes home slightly drunk, Stella still at hospital
Blanche is dressed up in a gown and tiara and talks about how she's been invited on a cruise by Shep Huntleigh, Stanley plays along w her.
Stanley puts on his wedding night pyjamas and opens a drink, "a geyser of foam shoots up" (ejaculative, foreshadows rape)
Blanche plays the sorrowful belle and tells Stanley about Mitch - he then calls her out on all her lying.
Stanley goes to the bathroom and Blanche phones for help, then Stanley comes out and advances on her.
Lots of plastic theatre - "approaching locomotive" "inhuman jungle voices rise up" "the hot trumpet and drums from the Four Deuces sound loudly"
Stanley overpowers her then rapes her.

The men are playing poker
Stanley briefly talks about American Dream
Eunice asks Stella about Blanche, she says they've arranged a place for to be taken away to in the country
Blanche talks about death from an unwashed grape and being thrown into the sea the colour of her first lover's eyes.
Matron and Doctor show up, Eunice says there is a gentleman for Blanche.
"The 'Varsouviana' is filtered into weird distortion, accompanied by the cries and noises of the jungle'"
Stanley rips off the paper lantern and offers it to B
Stella is in anguish at her decision
Mitch yells at Stanley, tries to punch him before sitting down and crying.
The doctor comes in and takes her away - "I have always depended on the kindness of strangers."
