Causes of the 1798 rebellion?

Protestant ascendancy → Ireland ruled by parliament under control of Britain. Catholic and Presbyterian discontent → penal laws, and tithes. Influence of the American Revolution →some people wanted the parliament to have more power.

Who's wolf tone?

He went to France for help against the English but french couldn't land because of bad weather in 1796 . He originally wanted to reform parliament but now uses physical force for indipendance.

What did the Irish do during this rebellion.

Attacked mailed coaches but easily shut down, in Wexford they killed 100 of Protestants but later defeated. Tone was caught and asked to be killed like a soldier but he was refused so he took his own life.

Consequences of the rebellion

Death and destruction → 10,000 to 30,000 died. Act of union → ended Dublin parliament and now ruled directly from London Catholic and Protestant conflict.
