Static friction
Two surfaces touching in fact are barley in contact
Static friction is force of bonds at surfaces keeping them together
Pressing objects together increases surface contact hence # bonds hence force (more pressed = more force)
Dynamic friction
As surfaces move past each other bonds form momentarily
Sliding friction is force of bonds at surfaces trying to keep them together
Pressing objects together increases surface contact hence # bonds hence force (more pressed = more force)
Both friction forces are proportional to WHAT between surfaces (no matter how large or small), with constant of proportionality depending only on the surface materials
Both friction forces are proportional to NORMAL FORCE between surfaces (no matter how large or small), with constant of proportionality depending only on the surface materials
