Tyranny
The arbitrary/oppressive exercise of power by a ruler or gov, often characterized by the violation of individual rights and liberties
Dissent
The expression or holding of opinions, beliefs, or viewpoints that are in opposition or disagreement w/ prevailing ideas, norms, policies, or authority figures
Ideology
A set of beliefs and values that shape how people see the world and guide their actions
Autonomy
The capacity for self-governance or self-determination, allowing individuals or groups to make independent decisions and pursue their interests without external interference
Apathy
Lack of interest, enthusiasm, or concepts, often leading to indifference or inaction in response to important issues or events
Vigilance
alertness, watchfulness or readiness to detect and respond to potential dangers, threats, or problems
Insubordination
Defiance of authority or refusal to obey orders or instruction from a superior authority
Collective identity
the shared sense of belonging and connection among groups or community members based on common experiences, beliefs, and values
Reality control
the manipulation or distortion of information, events, and perceptions to shape people’s understanding of what is real and what is not, often employed by authorities or in authoritarian systems to maintain control over populations
Orwellian
Describes societies like the one in 1984; oppressive totalitarianism. Typically connotes a dystopian reality where freedoms and truth are restricted/distorted.
Psychological Control
The use of psychological tech, manipulation, or coercion to influence individual thoughts, beliefs, behaviors, and emotions. Often used to maintain control over populations
Totalitarianism
A political system characterized by absolute centralized control over all aspects of public/private life, often involving repression of dissent.
Indoctrination
the Process- of teaching or instructing individuals to accept a set of beliefs or principles uncritically, often without allowing for alternative perspectives or critical thinking
Subversion
Undermining or destabilizing established authority, institutions or norms, often through covert means
