Whats a habitat
The environment in which an organism lives in/
Whats a population
The total number of organisms of the SAMW species living in the same geographical area.
Whats a community
The population of all of the different species that live in the same habitat.
The community contains all living organisms of an environment, this is called the biotic part of the environment. Biotic means living.
What are non living parts of an environment called
Abiotic parts, these include amount of water, and minerals in the soil.
Whats an ecosystem
Both the biotic and abiotic parts of an environment and how they interact.
What resources do organisms compete for
Plants compete with each other for light and space, water and mineral ions in soil.
Animals compete for food and water, mating partners and territory.
Whats interdependence
All species on a community depend on each other.
Every animal depends on other living organisms for food, e.g lions eat animals such as zebras and gazelles.
Others get food by eating plants, e.g zebras and gazelles eat grass and shrubs./
What are more examples of interdependence
Some living organisms provide shelter, e.g this tree shelters animals from the sun
Plants can also depend on animals, e.g many plants depend on bees to spread their pollen, or birds which disperse seeds in their faeces.
What happens if a species disappears from a community
It affects the whole community, e.g without bees lots of different plants would not get pollinated, and unable to reproduce, and animals which feed on these plants could then run out of food.
Whats stable community
When the populations of the different species in a community remain fairly constant.
