What are eukaryotic cells?
Have a nucleus and membrane bound organelles
What are prokaryotic cells?
Don’t have a nucleus or membrane bound organelles
What are the parts of a nucleus?
Nucleoplasm, nuclear envelope, nuclear pore (gap), nucleolus
What does a nuclear pore do?
Allows ribosomes + mRna to exit
What do nuclear envelopes do?
Separates cytoplasm from nucleoplasm
What is nucleoplasm?
Fluid that contains DNA + proteins
What does the nucleolus do?
Produces ribosomes, rRNA and tRNA
What cells have a nucleus?
Animal and plant
What are the parts of a mitochondria?
Outer and inner membrane, crista (s) cristae (p), matrix, loop of DNA, ribosomes 70s
What is a crista?
An inner fold (which affects surface area)
What is the matrix?
Fluid center
What does the loop of DNA do?
Self replication
What does the ribosomes do?
produces proteins
What is the function of the nucleus
Contains DNA which codes / controls protein synthesis, DNA replication occurs here, transcription produces mRna templates
What is the function of the mitochondrion
ATP synthesis by aerobic respiration
What are the names for mitochondria?
Mitochondrion (s) mitochondria (p)
