• Formed by magma cooling slowly underground allowing (phenocrysts) crystals to grow, followed by rapid cooling near surface resulting in fine grained groundmass

• Diabase: intrusive igneous rock with basaltic composition

Aplite

• fine grained light colored intrusive igneous rock (Qtz, and feldsbar)

• Leftover magma fills in fractures of surrounding rock, resulting in. quick cooling.

Dunite

• Primary composed of olivine

• dense early crystalizing grains of olivine

Amygdaloidal Basalt

• basalt with Amygdaloidal which are vesicles filled by small mineral (calcite, Qtz), originally gas bubbles.

Pumice

• glassy lava solidifies rapidly trapping gas bubbles

Obsidian

• volcanic glass,

• formed when lava cools rapidly, sharp edges becasue of conchoidal fracture.
