Synthesizer
An electronic instrument. “Synths” produce artificial sounds (waveforms) with oscillators. Parameters such as pitch and volume (amplitude) and how the sound is shaped over time can be tweaked to create a huge range of timbres.
Mixing Timbre
Traditional timbres on acoustic instruments can be mixed with synthesised sounds to create mood and even new genres of music.
Synth Pop
A genre of music that used synthesizers as the base of the song and recordings.
Fusion
The combination of two or more genres/ styles of music to create new sounds. Irish fusion mixes traditional and Irish music elements with other styles.
