Pliny Letter 3.11 (Lines 1-36)

Est omnino Artemidori nostri tam benigna natura,

It is the so kind nature certainly of out friend Artemidorus

ut officia amicorum in maius extollat.

so that he exalts the good deeds of his friends into something greater

Inde etiam meum meritum ut vera ita supra meritum praedicatione circumfert.

Thus also he proclaims my kindness with praise certainly true but beyond what is deserved

Equidem, cum essent philosophi ab urbe summoti, fui apud illum in suburbano,

certainly when the philosophers had been banished from Rome, I was at the house of that man in the suburbs

et quo notabilius (hoc est, periculosius) esset fui praetor.

and, by which it was more conspicuous (that is more dangerous) I was praetor

Pecuniam etiam, qua tunc illi ampliore opus erat, ut aes alienum exsolveret contractum ex pulcherrimis causis, mussantibus magnis quibusdam et locupletibus amicis mutuatus ipse gratuitam dedi.

I also gave money which then he needed in greater amount so that he would pay off the debt having been incurred for the finest causes, although certain great and wealth friends were silent I myself having borrowed gave the money interest free.
