Graphical Rep: histograms/boxplots
Generally used to analyse and explore data, bar + line charts used to present summarised results to others
Line charts
-Normally used to show change (e.g. of means) from one “condition” to
another, or over a time period
-Always make sure that charts have clear axes titles + a clear figure heading
Normal distribution chars
-Symmetrical about mid point of horizontal axis
-M = mean/median/mode
-Tails never quite meet horizontal axis
-Area under curve = known units of standard deviations/z scores
-In inferential stats, sometimes assume population values for psy variables form normal distribution
Positively skewed
Towards Y axis
Negatively skewed
Towards right
Z-score
One standard deviation from mean
