Representative fraction
written as a ratio or fraction . This scale shows the fraction of an object or land feature on the map. This type uses a set of numbers that represents the object
or a landmark.

This is an example of a representative fraction. It mean 1 unit on the map represents 100,000 units on the ground
Direct statement scale
uses words to show the relationship of the scale
This type of scale use simple words to describe a prominent
surface feature. A statement map scale expands abbreviations
to describe a landmark or an object.
